Recently
I reread a book by Lanny Bassham and a particular quote stood
out for me: “Success
is no accident. Paying proper attention during the anticipation
phase
can make your goals easier to accomplish”
My
goal with this article is to help individuals who are stagnating
at a certain level of performance to make quicker progress toward
reaching their desired outcomes. This is the 5S Program,
for success.
System – do
you have a system in your performance? If not, create one! A
system will allow you the opportunity to analyze
a certain outcome and understand the changes to make to move beyond
it.
Strategy – what
is your daily, weekly, or monthly practice plan to achieve your
target levels of performance, or to win a
certain competition? What will it take for you to
WIN the next regional or national tournament?
Structure – what
is your physical fitness program? Do you have any technical issue
with your Olympic pistols or rifles?
What is the structure of your perfect single shot? What is the
state of your mental or psychological preparedness?
Support – Even
if you are a highly skilled surgeon, you always need assistance
when you operate… especially on yourself.
Sometimes it takes another perspective to realize the blocks to
your progress… as Albert Einstein said, “Problems cannot
be solved by the same level of thinking that created them” For
highest levels of performance, it is necessary to have a qualified
coach or a mentor as you advance.
These
4S’s
lead to the last, your goal, which is your Success, or Solution.
