Protective
Glasses
Shell casings and pellets may ricochet and fly toward
your eyes. All shooters must wear eye protection, preferably tempered
glass that is impact and scratch resistant. It is recommended to
wear a blinder over the non-shooting eye. This is better than simply
closing it. When you squint or force your eye to close, you create
unnecessary nerve
tension
which
can be corrected by simply covering
the eye and leaving it relaxed.
Ear
Muffs
Proper
ear protection is mandatory whenever you are shooting. Wear muffs
(or muffs and plugs together) for maximum protection.
Shooting
Diary
If
you are a competitive shooter wishing to improve your performance,
you must always take notes in a diary. Use it to develop training
plans and write down what you have learned each practice day.
Clothing
Wear
comfortable clothing, appropriate to the weather and temperature.
Make sure your clothing is not too loose or too tight.
Shooting
Cap
A
shooter's cap has a slighting longer bill with side blinders.
Important for shielding your face from sun and glare.
Trigger
Weights
Check
your trigger resistance by hanging a weight from it. This is
part of the ISSF technical rules. This procedure is administered
at gun checks before matches, so make sure your trigger is not
too light.
Pellet
Box
Helps
you keep track of how many shots have been fired and how many
you have left. Good organization tactic as well.
Spotting
Scope & Stand
Unless
there is a returning target system, a spotting scope will help
you see where your shots land without you having to walk up to
the target.
Gun
Box
Keep
all your shooting equipment in this box for organization purposes.
Saves a lot of time. Know where all your equipment is.
Rulebooks
Know
what to expect from the match. Make sure all your equipment is
allowed and that you meet all the requirements. Keep a copy in
your shooting bag/box.
